sidetrip to malaysia

Went to Johor Bahru today; it is a border city about thirty minutes from here which also happens to be one of Malaysia’s major cities. The bus from Singapore to Jahore was cheap at $2.40SGD. The culture of Johor is mostly commercial, so shopping and eating. The currency in Malaysia is called the ringgit, and every one USD exchanged into 3.55 of theirs. Suffice to say, things were pretty much inexpensive in Johor with my most expensive purchase being around well under ten USD.

Concerning the locals of the area, there were surprisingly not many in sight as it was midday and either everyone was at work or at the mosques and government buildings. With the sparsely populated scene, Hac and I wandered throughout the city with the sun high in the sky. Our stops included the city’s main government offices, a few shopping malls, a mosque or two, a Hindu temple, and some water fountains shaped like tall shot glasses. Breakfast, or was it lunch, was a restaurant nearby the bus station that had a large duck. I had keow tuey, a rice kind of noodle dish with pork and duck. Lunch was hokkien noodles with seafood. Dinner was a tom yum in a claypot at the mall food court.

I’d write more, but Lannie is waiting to use the computer.

Hao thuong,
Everyone are doing well here. So you guys had a wonderful time in Singapore and in Malaysia, so far. A whole roasted duck with char siu over rice, liked Hac said sounded very cheap over there. How does it taste? Better than what we have in the States? As I heard you guys describe about your favorite food, it makes my mouth watering and I feel so hungry too. Seemed like everything even the life over there is very leisured and feels heavenly. If we are rich, we can live in a beautiful mansion with servants taking good care of us; nothing to complain anymore, just relax and enjoy our everyday life, right. It’s too good to be true. May be it’s just a dream! Well, we have to wait and see when our lucks are here. Anyway, going back to the reality now. Sounds like you had a lot fun over there already eating and shopping. Hao, you have to try their tasty food in Singapore like cha ca, fried shrimp ball and other delicious foods on the street vendor. Remember what I already mentioned last email to you. Enjoy your last day in Singapore, just don’t spend too much money on shopping over there. Be sure you have to eat more fruits and vegetables. And also take your vitamins, drink (milk) as much as you can everyday. Lastly buy some Singaporean Bo Kho to eat while you are still there (specialty by the kilo in chinatown). Otherwise if you can’t find it, you need to ask them directions to get there.
Until your next post, have safe trip to Ha noi.
Take care.
Love and miss you alot, Me cua Hao.
