I took a late-night walk yesterday around the entirety of what is Ho Xuan Huong in Da Lat. It really is beautiful at night as an almost silence compliments the thirty-something odd street lights reflect off its surface. As I walked, thoughts came abound–I cannot fathom life living in the shadows of others. I have decided that I would rather be a leader in my own right, that I will make my take my own roads. This was the sense of what I perceived to be individuality yearning to make itself realized once again. In recent months I have become too lethargic and not determined enough. I see this trait as a significant flaw that needed amending–thus, during the course of my late-night walk I have made up my mind to become this leader whom others will be inspired by.

The city of Da Lat is as I remember it from months ago… the traffic is light compared to Ha Noi or HCMC, the people wearing winter clothes in cool weather, and the scenes brilliant. I do believe that I have enjoyed this southern town more so than its northern equivalent Sapa. Likewise, the food is getting noticeably better once again.

This evening after a day long bus ride with a stop over at the Pongour Waterfalls, I am finally back in Saigon. This is what I have been waiting for for weeks.

  1. Hao,

I applaud your stance and commitment when “you have made up your mind to become the leader whom others will be inspired by”. Your best teacher is your own “Inner Guidance” coming from within and not from without. Your life is your journey to find for yourself who you “really are”.

  2. hao – you are taking this adventure to new heights. a leader and applying for further work abroad. how impressive. i wish i would have started a journal for you from when i first met you as a young child and how you have grown in ways in would NEVER have imagined. i am very impressed and proud of you. hey – you were the one that got elliot to take his medicine by video taping him. when we fail, we resort back to it – still a success. elliot and ani are good. elliot is still crazy as ever. i am not looking forward to flying to boston with him and taking in the sites. he’s just too quick on the feet and too contrary for me…it JUSt has to be his way. ani is great, loves first grade. she will start ski school on dec. 3 – she will get on a bus at 8am and off she goes to the slopes with a teacher and group of friends to return at 5pm – look out world – she’ll be tired and full of stories…just like you and hac. take care and seriously – take your studies to heart..it will payoff in the long run. minnesota to boston to rhode island back to minnesota —

  3. I regret that I waited so long before I went back. I should have gone back 20 years ago when it was first possible. Culture shock. The progress between 2003 and 2007 is so great that it is almost shock to go back again after only 4 years.
